The
IN TRANCE project was born around 1986, but it officially came into being, in the form it is known today, in 1996.
Guitarists
and super SCORPIONS fans Paul Gagné and Joe Giancioppi met backstage after a SCORPIONS concert (Face the Heat Tour) at the
Montréal Forum in 1994, when they have been introduced to each other by Rudolf Schenker and Matthias Jabs. They became friends,
began to jam SCORPIONS songs together and soon realized they had the same rhythm guitar/lead guitar relationship than the
one shared by Rudolf and Matthias. Both thrilled by the fact they had the key elements to recreate the SCORPIONS on their
own, they joined forces and launched what became IN TRANCE.
IN TRANCE was first created by its founders for their
own pleasure, but soon, they felt there was a need to give SCORPIONS and rock music fans the chance to get back to the thrill
of the unforgettable shows that made the SCORPIONS famous, at the time when hard rock and heavy metal ruled.
Now,
the fans are not only going back in time: although IN TRANCE plays mostly SCORPIONS songs from the 80's, they still have the
opportunity to hear the different musical styles experimented by the SCORPIONS over the years, from their humble beginnings,
in 1965, until now.
Once the bases of the band were laid out, veteran bass player Jeff Carrier joined with drummer
Stéphane Hamel. The next task was to find a singer who could match the voice, tonal range and personality of Klaus Meine.
Who else than classically trained singer Stéphane Dorval? He was the one and only match. The IN TRANCE line-up was complete.
IN TRANCE, which is the title of a landmark SCORPIONS album from 1975 and also the title of a nice song, worked hard
to reproduce the songs as they were originally created and performed by the SCORPIONS. IN TRANCE also paid special attention
to technical details like stage props and the drum riser typical of the 80's, and choreographies and stage moves of the SCORPIONS.
You got to see IN TRANCE onstage to believe how these unique musicians "get into" their respective SCORPIONS character.
To
get the right sound and look of the SCORPIONS, IN TRANCE acquired, over the years, a selection of instruments that the fans
naturally associate with the SCORPIONS.
Since the band formed, the line-up changed a bit. Since 1999, the drum throne
is occupied by the skilled and dynamic drummer Steeve Chiasson, Steeve brought with him his huge technical skills and upgraded
the band with his knowledge of music sequencing and sound engineering. In 2001, the talented Marc-André Gingras
stepped in to take the lead guitar position which he held until spring 2006. As a member of IN TRANCE, Marc-André (MAG)
brought the band to a level never reached before. With a very busy schedule and his promising solo carreer taking off, MAG
left his place to the very optimistic Marcel Dufour for some time, but was back with IN TRANCE by November 2007.

L'idée de départ pour former IN TRANCE a germé autour de 1986, mais ce n'est qu'en
1996 que le projet, tel qu'on le connaît maintenant, a été officiellement mis sur pied.
Paul Gagné et Joe Giancioppi,
guitaristes et super fans des SCORPIONS, se sont rencontrés en 1994, dans les coulisses d'un concert des SCORPIONS (tournée
Face the Heat) au Forum de Montréal, alors qu'ils ont été présentés l'un à l'autre par Rudolf Schenker et Matthias Jabs. Devenus
bons amis, ils ont eu l'occasion, à quelques reprises, de jouer ensemble des pièces de SCORPIONS. Ils ont réalisé que non
seulement ils partageaient la même relation de guitariste rythmique/guitariste solo que celle qui prévaut depuis longtemps
entre Rudolf et Matthias, mais aussi qu'ils détenaient les éléments clés qui leur permettraient de recréer leur propre interprétation
des SCORPIONS.
À l'origine, IN TRANCE a été créé par ses fondateurs pour leur propre plaisir, mais assez tôt, ces
derniers ont senti qu'il y avait un besoin de faire revivre aux fans des SCORPIONS, et aux amateurs de rock en général, les
spectacles inoubliables des SCORPIONS à l'époque de la suprématie du hard rock et du heavy metal. Les amateurs revivent de
bons moments, et IN TRANCE, qui met l'accent sur la période des années 80, leur offre une revue des différents styles de musique
auxquels les SCORPIONS ont touché depuis leurs humbles débuts, en 1965, jusqu'à maintenant.
Une fois les fondations
établies, le vétéran bassiste Jeff Carrier s'est joint aux guitaristes avec le batteur Stéphane Hamel. Le plus compliqué a
été de trouver un chanteur qui ait à la fois le timbre, le registre de voix et la présence sur scène de Klaus Meine. Qui d'autre
que Stéphane Dorval pouvait nous en offrir autant? Avec l'addition de ce chanteur de talent, la formation IN TRANCE était
complète.
Les membres d'IN TRANCE, titre d'un important album des SCORPIONS de 1975 et aussi d'une de leurs belles
chansons, se sont appliqués à reproduire le matériel musical le plus fidèlement possible, tel qu'il a été créé et joué à l'origine
par les SCORPIONS.
IN TRANCE s'est aussi arrêté aux détails techniques tels que la présentation scénique, l'estrade
de batterie caractéristique des années 80, et les chorégraphies et mouvements de scène typiques des SCORPIONS. Il faut voir
IN TRANCE sur scène pour saisir de quelle manière chacun de ses membres est parvenu à revêtir la peau de son personnage.
Pour
obtenir le son et le "look" authentique des SCORPIONS, IN TRANCE a graduellement acquis une sélection d'instruments que les
fans et connaisseurs associent depuis longtemps aux SCORPIONS.
Depuis la naissance du groupe, la formation a changé
un peu. Depuis 1999, le dynamique et doué Steeve Chiasson occupe maintenant le poste de batteur. Steeve a amené avec lui son
immense talent de batteur ainsi que son baggage de connaissances en audio et techniques de studio. En 2001, l'incroyablement
talentueux Marc-André Gingras (MAG) s'est joint à IN TRANCE comme guitariste-soliste. Avec lui, IN TRANCE a atteint des sommets
comme jamais auparavant. Avec un horaire surchargé et une carrière solo très promettrice devant lui, MAG a laissé sa place au
printemps 2006 à Marcel Dufour, mais était de retour avec IN TRANCE dès novembre 2007.
